Default House-sitter steals deployed soldier's identity, belongings
http://www.stripes.com/news/us/house...gings-1.152564

I wasn't thinking the article would end this way:

Phillips' body was found in a local cemetery as police were preparing warrants for his arrest, the story said. The circumstances of his death are under investigation.

Wtf? Sounds like a made for TV movie almost...but that's why I would never let someone watch my house while deployed unless I knew I could absolutely trust them. It's messed up when people take advantage of deployed soldiers.

I was wondering to myself "What IS that thing? Is that a badger? A fuel filter to a Woody Wagon? A fern?" Then I saw the caption and all was made clear.

You gotta make sure you can trust folks that you ask to watch your stuff. I've had friends that were fun to hang out with, but if I had to head out of town I wouldn't rely on them to feed my goldfish, let alone entrust them with all of my possessions.

That's a bad lapse of judgement on the soldier's part, but at least he redeemed himself on the tail end. What's the one place that a dead body won't seem out of place? A cemetery... f-ing genius.

I seriously can not stop laughing about that...LOLOLOL

I've had pretty good luck...when I was single, I used to let a young Airman get outta the dorms for a bit and stay at my place, if I was gone for more than a week or two. The only bad experience I had was letting my daughter do it...lol.

Generally now though, we just leave the place empty...of course, we don't go anywhere for 6 months!

Its even better than that one article about the Marine sergeant who spoke out against DADT during a Q&A session with the SgtMaj... and the photo showed a group of SOLDIERS.

Journalism FAIL.

Its crap like this which make me hate our 'more efficient on line society', where it is EASIER to steal your money, fake being you etc.. And its stuff like that which really make me wish to be an old school ADND style witch/warlock or other type of spell caster, so i could cast some real nasty stuff on those who steal identities..... like ones that flat out destroy their soul and erase them from existence...

I don't think it has never been hard to steal your identity if you're dumb enough to give someone key personal information.

Actually I know three people at work who had fradulent charges made to their debit cards and the cards were never stolen. One of them NEVER uses the Internet for anything (not including work). But when I asked if they had their debit cards stolen they said no, someone got their number somehow.

It's easy for someone to steal your information actually. If you use the ATM, if you use your card at a store some of them store your information from the magentic stripe, people have the portable scanners that can steal your information without you knowing it. So yes with technology it has actually become easier for someone to steal your identity than before this technology existed.

BUT yes if you don't give it out you can stop that from happening but people who are determined enough will get it.

You mean like giving them unlimited access to everything in your house for six months?
