KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — President Hamid Karzai's powerful half brother, a lightning rod for criticism of deep-rooted corruption within the Afghan government, was assassinated Tuesday by a bodyguard at his home in southern Afghanistan.

Ahmed Wali Karzai, the head of the Kandahar provincial council, was shot twice — once in the head and once in the chest, according to hospital officials.

The motive of the killing has not been established, but his death served a new blow to U.S.-coalition efforts to curb violence and the government's quest to gain control of this Taliban stronghold.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the assassination. A person who

Who cares if it cripples Kandahar or not? The question you should be asking is...what have we gotten for the $3.7 trillion we've spent on these silly wars?

LOL @ Kelly, yes, this is a great thing. The guy was almost as corrupt as Hamid Karzai himself. Hope someone takes Hamid out next.

They try but I'm sure he's next. I say we get outta there. What was the purpose of going in there? Oh because the Taliban wouldn't give up bin Laden. We got bin Laden. Our goal was never nation re-building in that country and they don't want it. At this point we did what we can in Afghanistan and definitely Iraq. Time to go. We can't impose our ideals or culture on everyone. Not everyone wants it.
