Really? i must have lucked out, because i had no trouble finding rescues that would take my aunts dogs when she couldn't keep them anymore.(sad that i had to look for her and she did not actively try to save her dogs herself) but perhaps that was because they both had problems and would be euthanized at any shelter. Idk it just surprises me that very few rescues will take an owner surrender
Yeah, you got lucky! When I was trying to find a rescue for a friends dogs, Petey and Buddy (was willing to separate if needed) I emailed and called over 50 rescues in my state and surrounding states because my husband was willing to drive the dogs as far away as MA. to see them saved. Out of all those rescues and the FB networking I did the only help I could get was courtesy postings on rescues web sites because they were all full up. Quite a few of the rescues even had a wait list for owner surrenders.
