Ferrari are still considered in the top three teams and seeing as Newey has ruled out ever moving out of the UK they have little choice but to compete and challenge. I agree getting rid of a talented designer like Costa is cutting off the nose to spite the face in this instance. Pat Fry is no designer but is very capable of leading the innovation route as he showed at McLaren, so it begs the question who do they have in mind? Byrne is getting on abit now and I doubt he would relish such a large challenge at his time of life. Not sure this is a great move by Ferrari and getting someone in who may not understand the team or a comprehensive understanding of methods tried and failed seems to be a massive task this distance into the season.
