My first experience with pit bulls came several years ago when I started volunteering with a local humane society. There was a former bait dog hanging around, and when I pulled up into their gated lot with my truck...when I came back out, she was spread eagle in the back wagging her tail as if to say, "all right! let's go!" She had hacked off ears and a scar on her face.
I bonded with her there, but as she was a pit bull and killed cats, no one wanted her. When the State said the shelter was "overcrowded" and would be enacting a mandatory euthanization, she was on the top of the list.
I called a friend of mine who lives in South Florida and had a pit bull (neutered, male.) He was on vacation in New Jersey, drove down from NJ to North Georgia, adopted Leda, and drove down to South Florida
He still has her today. Gosh...she must be...10 years old or so?
