As stated though, if you're comfortable with rooting and installing custom ROMs, the Captivate is a great choice as you're not reliant on Samsung. And I really don't see what's "critically flawed" about the Nexus S. The hardware isn't as strong as the Captivate, but it's still a great phone.

It's exactly the same hardware as the Captivate (Galaxy S)

Unless you mean the lack of a memory card?
