Not sure if I read the thread thoroughly enough - but OHP mentioned asking for a Driver's awareness course.
Couldn't see if the OP pursued this or not.


But some counties/Police depts (not all) - offer a Drivers awareness course.
Instead of picking up the 3 points, you can attend the course and basically it teaches you everything you already know ie don't speed, act responsibly. I think it's a one day course.

I don't think you can get out of the fine though.

So it might be worth asking.
Put up with going to a boring course for a day - but avoid points on your licence.


Bear in mind though - not all regions offer this.
And there may be other issues to consider for your eligibility - such as how much did you go over the speed limit (17mph in this case).
