Actually it's more of a waste of time playing your Wii / PS3 / 360.

You can learn allot more from TV, it's like going back to school or if ya still at schoole xpanding ya knowledge, tune into discovery channels and the like, it's far from a waste of time! Wii / PS3 / 360 is just wasting life away.
If I want to go back to school, I'll re-enroll. If I want to expand my knowledge, I'll read online articles and books, like I already do.

My consoles are used for entertainment with friends, I don't sit down and play them by myself on a regular basis. (Several months since I turned either one on without at least one other person who wanted to play something).

Social Interaction > Watching bullshit on the tube. I certainly don't feel that interacting with friends and family is wasting life away.

Books / Resources that dont have 15-30 second advertising interruptions while Im trying to find information > Watching interrupted information on the tube.

Watching television hardly stimulates the brain in a way that interacting with a book / game / person does. It certainly doesnt do much to promote hand/eye coordination or critical thinking / problem solving skills. (At least not for the majority of people who sit around staring at the tube hoping to be entertained. Exceptions to everything, obviously, exist.

Some shows, maybe, but by and large the majority of television is total rubbish. The availability of quality programming for the price is extremely lackluster. Almost anything I'd have the desire to get from television I can get from other sources.
