I thought this as well, but it really isn't. The cost has risen with inflation but a massive lego model still costs roughly the same as it did 20 years ago.

For example, in 1990 I was given the Lego Test Car for my birthday. It cost about £40 at the time.

An equivalent today looks like this:

and costs about £100.

Give or take a tenner it's really just an inflationary rise.
