As a general rule, if you act like an idiot, you'll be treated like an idiot - so either consider the way it may come over, or use the occassional smilie as an indicator - like this [rolleyes]

Says the 50 year old man that plays with computers, posts on forums with an average age of 20 years his junior, has a narrow taste in women (literally), and misunderstands even the most basic physical concepts at times...

But, yeah, similes (and spell check) are pretty useful for making jokes.
