I should imagine, though, that if you accumulated enough problems in Germany, the authorities there would initiate investigations that would trace the car owner back to Britain - and if they were particularly insistent on claiming the money, or just causing you trouble, they could request the British motoring authorities to investigate the details behind the registered owner. And naturally it would eventually transpire that such a person had a son back in Germany...
