Probably when you were a student you had less to lose. Now that you are settling in, you have more to lose, and so you naturally become more careful. Its an old pattern and marriage will exacerbate it. Children even more so.
Even the insurance companies know that as you get older and more established, then eventually married, then married with children, you will tend to be more and more more careful.
Our society actually counts on that.
