I'm working towards MCSE, and if my company wasn't paying for it then I'd be screwed.

Some of the course sections like the WinXP one are dead simple, if you've been using WinXP with some depth. It's the sections like Domain Admin where I struggled: it's not difficult, but when I was on the couse for managing and maintaining a server 2003 environment I hadn't actually been in the position of being a domain admin. My experience with 2003 was soley from an hosting perspective (I work for a managed hosting company) not so much the admin side. So I really appricated being tought those sections from a person, rather than a book.

So what I'm saying is, if you have some prior knowledge you could just buy the books and self teach then just sit the exam, however be prepared to have to go on some courses, as it's not all as easy as you'd think (Passing an exam IMO doesn't nesscaryly mean you'll be a good admin, where the classroom teaches you things a book wont).
