I've found it strange that in many cases the instructions recommend charging overnight, or 12-16 hours. Even the first charge usually takes a few hours max., and then the charging symbol vanishes. Surely it doesn't matter if the phone is then disconnected from the charger and used as usual? AFAIK the charger is effectively disconnected from the phone if the charging symbol isn't active. Could the instructions be BS?

Usually the instructions over-quote the time needed, to make totally sure that you fully charge the battery the first time.

All modern chargers effectively "disconnect" once the battery is fully charged - which is basically the same as physically removing the lead once charging is complete.
