It's true that even if you have right of way you should be careful and make sure you actually get right of way from the other person: if you don't, you should stop. Of course, if you're already halfway across the crossing there's not much you can do about it; perhaps the policeman didn't actually mean to blame you (it can't be blamed on you if the other person's the offender) but just made the comment.

As a fellow motor cyclist you probably knew this already though.

Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about your car accident! I take it you're not hurt yourself, but how's the car? Insurance covering it?
