Picard clearly misjudged the opposition. Who takes on a comedian in a battle of witty banter and trading insults? Especially one who lots of folks have a fondness for and more recently has been seen using his talents for raising money for charity and is gonna do an England World Cup song. You don't target someone who's got that level of popularity. Picard must have been out of the country for a while to have missed the fact that although James Corden may be little known outside of these shores, he is well regarded.
Absolutely! But would Musashi have thought like this? I bet he'd've devised a strategy to defeat the great 'word warrior' that id Cordon!

I heard about this on the radio and it seems that Stewart may have had his nose put out of joint by not being asked to present the award ceremony himself. He was heard by the BBC reporters telling Cordon "I'm very experienced in doing awards shows and know all about them" and generally putting Cordon on the back foot, so in this context I can see why Cordon very effectively stood up to Stewart who was, in my opinion, being a bit of a 'prick'. The reporters said that the audience turned on Stewart after his comments and the atmosphere after he left was very tense.

Bizarre!
