Perhaps she looks strange to you because she doesn't fit the ideal of the feminist Western "beauty"...

There are many Afghans with light eyes. I think she was just an example for people in the West who really did not know much about this place.

She fit in the ideal of western beauty as average looking girl , nothing special . the big problem is her eyes looks creepy they aren't harmonious with her face . Also the one who made the picture, try to put in value her eyes, for make a deep look . The reason why that looks creepy .

She has changed a lot now

She is still ugly , but looks more normal with age

google "afghan girl" and the page is even more full of her picture , nothing to do with the creepy stuff.

That has something to do , she looks creepy by the way
