American Standard, the accent of news anchors, originates in Nebraska.
Interesting that you say that. When I worked for a major insurance company Omaha Nebraska was the king of cities for telemarketing centers because the accent was so neutral it wouldn't offend your customer base. All our primary call centers were in the midwest for that reason (and to be in the center of the timezones.) Salt lake city was also good in terms of accents and the Mormons provided a good consistent work force. We had emergency call centers in all parts of the country except the south (because of the accent)
