Far closer, yes, but a "sub-set" like the blacks of Mauritius or even parts of south America and the Carribean, not so much IMO. Their phenotypic variation is far too great
New World Peoples of African descent phenotypic variantion overlaps strongly with the phenotypic diversity of Africans. Only a small amount of them will overlap with Europeans and those straddle the periphery.
