http://www.pbs.org/wnet/finding-your-roots/
it is a new series made by the controversial(for many members here, mostly the DRs)Henry Louis Gates Jr, where he will be interviewing many celebrities about their roots, who will watch it?

I know my root. I speak my ancestral tongue, practice shamanism, wear my traditional attires, know my history.... I dont claim any other culture.

For example, if I was german and I claimed aryan... I find that hilarious simply because how can you claim an ethnic group that you obviously have no tie to.

My ethnic identity is more important then my race. Lol

Wel, PR culture has ancestral ties to Spansh, taino Arawak and West African culture, as PR culture is an offshoot of those three.

It just makes me think they should have used DR MCDONALD to REINTERPRET these 23andMe results for this series. Joint is gonna be MAD off for Native admixed ppl and they're going to be OVER-EUROPEANIZING the mixed participants' scores.

Yup, Don Cheadle and Chris Rock are ~86-88% SSA, Henry Louis Gates is more like 60/40 than 50/50, and Whoopi Golderg and Oprah are damn near pure!

They don't have Native American samples to compare your DNA against, they don't have various African ethnicities, so they are inaccurate results for Native admixed people and non-Yoruba/West African African descended people. East Africans get the worst results imo.

Is he not African American? Maybe next time you all will get your own scholars to do research on your own people, and maybe next time you all won't exploit a research program geared towards African American genetics.

I might watch it, he should check out a couple of Dominican scores, maybe that way he'll become a bit less ignorant towards us.

Well I saw this about a week ago now...i believe 23 and Me and the the Broad Institute were being interviewed. I didn't know he was so controversial...So now I have a reason to re-watch with skepticism.

He isn't he just upset a lot of Dominicans (especially the ones on this forum) with his coverage of the DR during his Black in "Latin" America series.

Agreed.
I think Dr Henry Louis Gates Jr did a good job on Mexico's episode in the Black in "Latin" America series, what do you think Cuetlachtli?

It was pretty ridiculous on his part, considering what noirisme (which should be codename for reverse racism, IMHO) has done to the Haitian part of the island. And before you say anything, unlike most of my countrymen, I'm in favor of a more active participation on our part in Haitian affairs, specially by doing everything on our power to prop up a gov. there answering to OUR interests, for a change. Believe me, there wouldn't be a scarcity of auxiliaries on their part willing to get the job done.

What school did you receive your Ph.D from? Cherry picking selected individuals from near by populations as a representative source of a population, due to your very own phenotypical & genetic minority status does not warrant a dismissive of Dr. Henry Louis Gates thesis.
