I still consider Israel and the US as civilized countries. In both these countries, male circumcision is customary. There is no scientific evidence it prevents men from enjoying sex or limits feeling, ability to orgasm, etc. That is NOT TRUE OF FEMALE CIRCUMCISION. DO NOT CONFUSE THE TWO. |

Not to sound like even more of a Philippine fanboy than I actually am, but over 80% of Filipino men are circumcised, and they're overwhelmingly Catholic and a peaceful country. Even their revolution in the 1980s was essentially bloodless.
To say that there is a connection to having your foreskin removed and being violent is ridiculous. Very few Chinese or their jingoistic North Korean neighbors are circumcised, and look at them. By contrast, the vast majority of the pacifistic South Koreans are circumcised. |

What is the reason for Catholics and Buddhists to circumsise? It's common in S. Korea and La Filipinas because those countries had high levels of American influence in the 20th century. |

catholics don't cut. i dont know about buddhists. the origin of this is in hygiene. possibly the concept came during some plaque or something when people found out that it helps keep germs away. later, it was carried by customs and religion. its not natural thus questionable. i didn't know so many ethnicities practice it. one learns everyday. |
