Man, I loved watching this guy play.
Here is a very long, but great article about him for those who marveled at the extraordinary athlete who once was more popular than Michael Jordan himself. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/etick...page=bojackson |

For a lions fan, this may sound strange, but Bo to me was the single greatest athelete I have ever seen...I was too young to see him in college, but I watched him in the pros, he's why i first loved football...maybe the best football player i've ever seen (note NOT to ever live, but that I've ever seen..)

I got the opportunity to see him play both baseball and football in person. Unfortunately, the game I saw him play football was his last game in L.A. |

I'm definitely biased, but he was the best athlete I've ever seen while I was growing up. |

Yeah...he was a heck of a talented guy. Thing is, he could simply truck you the hell over...actuall;y thinking about it, APete kind of reminds me of a smaller version of him Not only did they not make athletes quite like him back then, those types of athletes have rarely ever been seen. For me growing up and watching him was truly a treat. I just wish he had at least another 10 years of playing. |

What I loved about him, was that he could run over you, through you, or around you. if Bo and Barry had each played for 12-13 years, their records in damn near every category would be untouchable. |

well i guess what made him special made him short lived, the running through you part, lots of hits I suppose and he was sort of an upright runner from what i recall... |

emmitt wouldnt be tops in any of the career rushing marks if he had. His football seasons generally were 8-10 games long. There was also talk that he was considering giving up football, and playing and preparing for baseball yearlong. |

degenerative hip disease, I believe. one tackle against the bengals was all it took to end what wouldve been an illustrious career. Also, a bit interesting is that the doctors said a "normal" person would've broken their leg. Therefore, Bo would've broken his leg, recovered within time, and resumed his career. He actually did play briefly (practically on one leg) in baseball after his hip replacement surgery, but was never quite the same guy again. He truly was just starting to scratch the surface as far as baseball was concerned, and is the only guy ever to play in an All Star baseball game, and a Pro Bowl in the same seasons. |

Ironically, I believe Priest Holmes later had this same injury, but with the medical advancements, he was able to recover. |
