I have sent letters and packages to Thailand, and they have all made it to their destination. I always write the adress in English, and havent had a problem. I always send it Priority through the US Postal, and it takes about 10 days.

zlopikanikanzax 09-21-2012 09:29 AM

It takes 2 weeks for a normal mail to get to South and North America, 4-6 days for an express mail, and about a week for a normal mail to be sent to Europe, i think. I gathered that from my experience. It's usually around that amount of time.

Out of curiousity... what was the cost of shipping your box full of books? I've shipped light things before and have always wanted to send my books back that way....but afraid of the cost. This last time, my carry on weighed 50 lbs!

i wanted to get my friend to mail me something. but i only got an english address, no point writing it in thai, cause people in my country cannot read thai ?!

so writing my address in english alone is enough ? or do i need to find a thai version of my address?

I have sent several packages from Sydney to Bangkok, and it has always been written in English and has taken about a week and a half to get there on each occasion.

I have had a few chats with the boys at our local post office and the main thing to get right is the district within the Tambun for instance
19 Moo 1,
Soi Madee
Bang Saray
Chonburi, 20250
Early on the Moo (district) was not on my mail, and they could not/would not work it out, as there is only one Soi Madee.
Hope this helps.
Also don't send anything valuable unless it's registered or by courier.

mailing in, there's no problem......
it's the mail out that's not arriving.....lost in space ?

I use English going out and we get all kinds of mail, both letters and packages from all over, both local and international and written in just English, even from Thai business in English only, the house address it seems is not important but the Name, MOO, T., A. should be there. and between 10 and 15 days..

I just received two boxes here in the USA that I sent from Thailand at the cheapest rate. It took just over eight weeks. The larger box was books only. Due to the handling or stacking, one of the seams seems to have been forced open and some of the books must have slipped out. So I lost at least five books that I know of, I don't have a list of what went in. As a small consolation, I got someone else's tiny note book!

The books were loose in the box but crammed in there pretty tightly. Next time I'll put them in plastic bags and secure them internally with tape to each other.

Welcome to the forums homejames (like the handle).

Postage on that box was 1950 baht. Total weight was 10.1 kilograms (22.3 lbs for us metrically-challenged folk).

English should work. We get stuff from Thailand addressed in English and I have mailed there (toBkk) addressed in English.

www.forumsovetov.ru 09-21-2012 07:20 PM

Mr. Phetch...about registered mail from U.S.- I sent some registered mail to my Noochie,..and after delay of its arrival there in Bkk. I called post office here to find out where is my letter, I was told that U.S. postal service can not trace the letter after it leaves U.S., so sending it registered from U.S. to another country, is a poor guarantee that it will be found-because its registered. Though my letter finaly arrived, I will not be throwing my money away again, by registering letters when sending to Thailand.

zlopikanikanzax 09-21-2012 07:38 PM

Thai Mailing System?? Everyday they deliver me mails which are not addressed to my house. I'm just too tired to act a messenger myself, so just waiting for those with the names addressed on the mails to bomb the post offices in the area.

www.forumsovetov.ru 09-21-2012 09:25 PM

Well that is not my experience with mail sent to Thailand. I must have sent dozens if not 100 letters to my P`Noot over last 2 years, it normaly takes a letter about 6 days to get to Bkk. from me. Un less it takes longer for mail to get FROM Thailand to U.S. than it does to get from U.S, to Thailand....But even if that was the case...it`s still no excuse for the cards I sent over a year and a half ago not to have arrived at their destinations.

www.forumsovetov.ru 09-21-2012 09:34 PM

Well if I am not too-late here`s my gripe against Thai mail service. In 2005 on my first visit to Bkk. I sent 4 post cards 3 to Chicago, and one to Europe. Only one arrived (to Chicago) and that was about 2 weeks later-I was already back in Chicago-the other 3 have not arrived yet at their destinations.[(Mind you the postage was paid according to postal clerks decission, that should not have been the problem)</b> And that makes me wonder how do they send mail from Thailand to overseas?...by rowboats?http://www.thailandqa.com/forum/imag...s/confused.png

ireleda 09-21-2012 10:21 PM

Yep, damn lucky if they deliver it to the correct MOO., It has been taking about 10 to 14 days for things to get from the states to me or my neighbors, who ever he wants to deliver my stuff to, all air mail and some thru DHL?[anyway a courier service]

dyestymum 09-21-2012 11:18 PM

Just a warning for anyone in the USA. They doubled the rates to send packages overseas. I just sent a package that would normaly cost me about $15 but today it costed me $37!! So bring some more cash if you are sending anything overseas from the US.

dyestymum 09-21-2012 11:30 PM

I have recieved letters from Thailand, and my address was written in english, no Thai.
