The bail petition of the DMK MP, Ms Kanimozhi, will be heard on Monday by a bench headed by Justice G.S. Singhvi, who is monitoring the 2G scam case after Justice P.Sathasivam, scheduled to sit as head of a vacation bench from June 20, recused from he hearing.

Highly-placed sources in he Supreme Court adminisration said Justice Sathasivam expressed his desire not to take up Ms Kanimozhi's bail case.

Though no specific expla ation was given, the reason pparently was that Justice Sathasivam belongs to Tamil Nadu and had served as a judge for a long time in the Madras High Court.

Since Justice Sathasivam is scheduled to sit with justice A.K. Patnaik in the vacation bench from June 20, the former's recusal would have disturbed the vacation bench's composiion. Therefore, a new bench was created to hear Ms Kanimozhi's bail plea, sources said.
