block a sheathing attack

can you do that? and how?

vipbunter 05-31-2007 07:31 AM

Well, since Kendo does not use a Saya, I imagine this would be an Iaido question, which really isn't combative per say, so that leaves Kenjutsu....
Perhaps it might help if you could clarify your question with more details?

BopeDolaNeone 05-31-2007 07:48 AM

well my friend is working on block or parying a sheathing attack and all i wanted to know if that is possble

somozasayre 05-31-2007 07:49 AM

Sorry mate, but it would help if we knew what you meant be a "sheathing attack".

IamRobot 05-31-2007 07:51 AM

you know you pull the sword out really fast and it cuts the person in half

arraxylap 05-31-2007 07:53 AM

There's no need to block it, who's going to do it to you?

ebonytipchik 05-31-2007 07:53 AM

Ahhh, the old pull the sword out really fast and cut the other guy in half attack.
Swordus interruptus it is called.
I think you are in the wrong place, you should be in the cartoon section.

muBXvWIC 05-31-2007 07:55 AM

Well that would be a drawing attack then. You should ask you teacher.

Bugamerka 05-31-2007 07:55 AM

funny they didnt say that in e.i class

Blolover11 05-31-2007 07:56 AM

e i class?

If you mean iai, I will laugh at you.

km2000 05-31-2007 07:57 AM

good you live longer when you laugh

PhillipHer 05-31-2007 07:58 AM

haha hahaha
The trick though is to time your pulling the sword out really fast to cut the other guy in half so that it comes during the space between the haha and the hahaha.

Toninvell 05-31-2007 08:04 AM

really tell me more

Goseciwx 05-31-2007 08:06 AM

Only if you tell us your name, where you practice and your sensei's name. Otherwise, this is pointless and boring.

bataovady 05-31-2007 08:07 AM

I rate this thread 9 stars out of 5. I just had to leave the office for a moment or two in order to f*cking shriek with laughter.

I think I did a little wee in my shorts. I will check later when I also confirm that I haven't laughed my balls off.

Kendo does not stress blocking. If your friend is really worried about getting caught off guard and cut in half, he should just hit the other guy before he comes out of sonkyo. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/tongue.gif

infinkPoode 05-31-2007 08:20 AM

Ignatz I think you will find that there is some debate about the timing of cuts between the haha and the hahaha.

From the little I know MJER tend to cut just after the second HA in Haha whereas MSR tend to cut just before the first HA in Hahaha.

it is an interesting dynamic which clearly demonstrates the difference between the two sword schools.
