Default Entering Japanese Text
Okay, how do you do it?

I don't mean how to type it in on the computer. I do that everyday. I do it on my own webpage, and it comes through fine.

However, on Kendo World and similar forum websites, I can enter it just fine in the post editing window, but when I preview or post the message, it just comes out as a bunch of question marks.

I've looked but can't find any relevant option in my user profile. Is it something to do with my browser settings? I'm using Safari. I can get text to come through if I set my text encoding to Shift JIS, but then everyone else's Japanese text is screwed up, so that's clearly not what the rest of you are doing.

I use Shift JIS at home because my OS is English but here at work im on a Japanese OS pc so have no problems. What about testing it out (in this thread) by posting from a different browser?

I used to have problems using my webmail with Japanese but since changing the character set to ISO 2-022-JP (JIS) ive had zero problems, even emailing mobiles..... I suspect its here that you are having problems.

I'd have sworn I'd tried that before.

Thanks.

No, it worked for me too.

My comment was that I didn't think I was being that stupid. On previous attempts, I must have done something differently.

Strange, but yes there seem to be a difference in how the characters are converted. Look at the source code from this page and you will see that the japanese Kenshi wrote has been converted to special characters like "#784687;" (which I assume are unicode numbers?) while Kents have not.

Can't be of any help though, since I am not a Windows user. But it clearly shows why it isa good idea to run a unicode enabled operating system

Using a Mac, I've not tried IE. And downloading a whole new browser just because of this seems like it should be unnecessary. I can read it all just fine, it's getting it to come through that's the problem.

Try setting the message entry box to the correct character code instead.

Right now you are changing the entire page to Shift JIS. I can read yours if I change mine to Shift JIS too. What you wrote:-
日本語で書けるか。
出来る為に

And the one with ISO-2022 JP
これは?

I have the same problem on my Chinese blog, and that how I dealt with it.

How do you go about that?

I can't find any separate control for the entry box.

I installed Firefox, so I'm giving it another go.

日本語で書いてる。

Let's see if that works.

ETA: Seems to. I don't know what Safari's problem is.

Can see the lot now.

Firefox is a pretty good browser. Have you tried the rikai-chan plugin?
