Default Tenegui
I always wondered why they are frayed at the edges instead of sewed up nicely.

Anyone want to guess why?

I did always wonder that too. lol

Maybe folding and stitching a nice seam makes the edges too bulky to sit comfortably inside the men?

Cheaper to produce them with raw edges?

That's what I thought. I get the mrs to run them through her overlocker...

I thought it might be so you have the option of cutting them down if need be??...but that's just a punt. Why is it?

Its so they can easily be torn into strips, then used for various odd jobs like fixing sandals, etc.

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't know that until it was on TV about an hour ago.

Ahhh, along that line of thought, I just remembered when I visited Japan I was very quick to be taken to a hyakuyen store. And, as I'm sure you know, they have quite the range of "kitchen tengui", not sure what they actually call them (just tenegui I think). And they have the ends sewn up. I brought a few back but they dissapated over time. I could bring a whole heap back next time and sell them off as "genuines" for an easy profit of 500%.......don't go taken' my ideas now ya'll.

I've got a few that came with the ends sewn neatly up.

I've been told it's so that you don't have a creased seam under your men that'll sting like a feminine woofer if you cop a men cut on it.
