sometimes at kendo seminars/taikai the sayonara party (usually a saturday night after a long day of competition/keiko) ends around 2 am... but we go somewhere else and keep drinking and dancing all night until 5am... when we are kicked out we move to another drinking and dancing place until 7am... you get to the hotel/hostal at 8am, knowing you have keiko at 9am...

going to those keiko still semi-drunk, a sunday morning at 9am, without ANY sleep and after a very long night of dancing, drinking and partying.... now THAT'S COMMITMENT my friend

is this some kind of contest?

oh and this weekend after finding out 10 minutes after last minute that i couldnt get a lift to a seminar in edinburgh, i forced my brother to give me a lift to the station, just in time for a train that cost me £36 single

hows that?
Haha, I'm sure it was worth it... Not many people get to witness the awesome power of my crappy technique!

On topic my Dojo is about a 20 minute train ride away from my house. It costs a bunch of money but it's waaay better than getting a bus. When I first started Iai the Dojo was in a totally different area of Edinburgh, that meant I HAD to do the 1hr 15 minute long bus ride.

I think it was intended to be but now it's turned into "how do you get to keiko or: what was the biggest sacrifice you made to get to keiko".

My dojo is about 45 minutes away, 45 on the return as well. The problem is there is a bridge you have to cross. On the bridge there is a a guy that asks you all these dumb questions before you can cross. To get out of the dojo, you have to defeat a grandmaster soke sifu.

My last post was meant as a thread drift alert, a bit sarcastic and yes you can add envy to the mix, nevertheless the title of the thread is how committed are you? not how far is the closest dojo.

Well, for most of them, driving 2 hours in a maniac traffic is sacrifice enough... I respect them, but they should try chilean transport to see what is real sacrifice, lol

You might want to enlighten us on that for the more ignorant people in the group...like me. All I can really say is that public transportation outside of the big cities isn't all that great. Heck, Atlanta could be a lot better in that.

The problem is that chilean public transportation is not something we can describe, you really have to live it and taste its flavor to know that os worst than madness, worst than bad and worst than the worst public transportation you can think of.

And I'm not talking only of Santiago de Chile transportation sistem, I'm talking about the whole country.

Just because you drive far to go to keiko, does it mean you are committed?

Think for a moment you´re a flag..... then you imagine a truck full of flags sweating, some move with the wind.... some fly away... some others twist and well, whatever happens to flags when they´re compressed within something not fit for them... considering such thing wishes to appear and give you a ride.

at least that´s in santiago, some little insight.
