Default Slow versions of songs
over at http://www.katebushnews.com/ they have a couple of kates songs slowed down 800%. They sound amazing...really atmospheric. Have been listening to them all day. Its like rediscovering the song in a whole new way.

OMG, these are incredible. Especially Cloudbusting, which is sounds so majestic and oceanic.

I assume this came about because of the Justin Bieber thing that surfaced this week. Even his song slowed down 800% sounded beautiful.

I really love Cloudbusting. I'd love to hear a few of her creepier songs this way, like Get Out of my House.

Hmmm, I don't think they really do anything for me, to be honest.

It just sounds like the songs being played really slowly, as opposed to the slower tempo reworking the songs into being something entirely different, which is how the Bieber track worked. It was completely unrecognisable from the original in the slow reworking, whereas these are still totally familiar.

Kate has a tendancy to create the impression of a full rich texture, but actually leaves a lot of space in her music, which is just highlighted by these slower versions. One of her actually richer, denser and faster tracks would be needed as a basis for a successful reworking in this style, in my opinion. I don't like these at all - I'm expecting the songs to get back to their proper tempo because I recognise them so much, as opposed to appreciating something new.

I think we should have a listening party for a handful of these tunes. It would last for months, and we could give prizes to those who don't give up.

I'd didn't know what this slowed down Justin Bieber thing was, so I YouTubed it. It's quite funny, but I saw this comment which I thought was funnier:

It all makes sense now, as one gets older, time seems to pass faster, as incriments of time such as one minute or one second become lesser in comparison to the amount of time you've spent alive. Thus, 10 year old girls hear Justin Beiber much slower than everyone else, as their time on this planet has been shorter than ours. This gives them the illusion that they're listening to quality music.

Nothing to do with the Kate versions, but made me chuckle.

I couldn't listen to the Justin Beiber tracks because, even slowed down, his voice sounded like a sonic weapon of mass destruction. The auto-tune, the metallic edge to the tone... ugh. With Cloudbusting, it was just incredible hearing her voice in such a slowed context, the swoops, the pitch bends, even the slightly out of tune singing. I couldn't understand the words or follow the original melody, whereas with Wuthering Heights, it was still so apparent. I wonder if it was really slowed down 800% or whatever the number was.
