Joanna made NME's "Top 75 Albums of the Year" list, with HOOM coming in at #57. That seems awfully low to me, but it's still good to see her getting mentioned.

She's also in Q's list (in the 40s) and Mojo (#13, I think).

Her being anywhere but the top 20 of any music list this year is a fucking joke, I'm sorry.

The Q one is particularly gag-worthy looking at some of the bollocks ranked above it.

You KNOW I agree, Dan! I think she should be #1, obviously, but I respect that she's divisive and Not For Everyone, etc. However, considering the critical acclaim HOOM received, it's sort of unthinkable that she isn't top 20.

I wonder if her low ranking is influenced by the fact that the critical acclaim she received wasn't backed up by strong sales. This year, a lot of indie/pitchforky bands and artists made it big on the charts: Sufjan and the National got top 10 Billboard rankings, Arcade Fire topped both the UK and the US charts etc. This didn't happen for Joanna, and after the critical success of Ys, many people (including myself) expected it.

Default Random Joanna stuff
I don't think we have a general Joanna chit-chat thread, so here it is.

"Bridges and Balloons" is being used in the new T-Mobile/LG Optimus commercial. It was nice to hear a familiar voice on TV.

That was the first time I ever heard her music so I'm quite thankful in a way for it!

Uh, that's awesome. I remember that night in NYC very very well, and actually wrote a play that took place on that night! Very cool.

that was such a sweet commercial, though I still dont know what "Orange" is, or does. Aside from being delicious?
What a wonderful setting for a play, as well.

It was pretty cool. We had the whole stage lit up with battery operated candles. My lighting designer was made of win.

Finally. She didn't even make Spin's top 40 which was pretty fucking ridiculous as well.

ETA: She made Stereogum's list at #11 http://stereogum.com/593442/stereogu...es/listomania/
