The actor, who is in the middle of a nasty custody battle, was recorded by former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva saying absolutely horrific racial and misogynist slur after he threatened her life, and she realized she needed proof to build a case against him court.

The source claims:

"Oksana's motivation for recording this was to show Mel how mean he was, and because she feared for her life. She wanted to get evidence that he was dangerous and violent. Mel is doing everything he can to suppress this… they are the rantings of a mad man."

Gibson is heard on the tapes saying the following:

I hate the fact that I still enjoy his movies. He's such a belligerant bully but yet so charismatic on screen. I can't reconcile the two. Oh well...I chalk it up to being in love with him when I was 15. The teenager in me just can't let go.

After his meltdown a few years ago, I just watched his stuff on non-pay tv. I figured he wasn't making money off of me watching Maverick on TNT for half an hour. I was so disgusted by what he did I didn't want to support him, but wanted to still enjoy the stuff that came out *before*.

Now I won't be able to. This was way too far for me personally. It's going to be hard. I love Signs, Lethal Weapon, Payback, Ransom. But I won't be able to look at him and not see a monster. His personal behavior is so bad it'll keep me from looking past it. All I'll see is the crazy abuser full of hate.
