Default Used Toyota Rav 4 (4x4)
Anybody have any words of wisdom ?,

someone is trying to sell me a 2006, it looks brand new, impeccable interior, no dings etc etc.

it was shipped in from Miami in May 2012, the asking price is comparable to suppercarros.com - I think I read once here there is a way to check to see if the car was in an prior accident?.

Any ideas on how to check that?, anyone had a Rav 4 ?.

Appreciate any information,
Have a nice evening

Although a CARFAX check may not reveal everything about that car, it's worth doing it.
I am sure it has around 70,000 miles on the odometer...
Check the nylon sticker on the front seatbelts (near the lower anchor bolt) for model year.

Very good vehicle ad the way to check for US Vehicle hostory is:

CARFAX® - Official Site - Vehicle History Reports on Used Cars for Sale

You just need the car's VIN.

Also a VERY good idea to have a competent, trustworthy mechanic do a very thorough pre-sale inspection.

CARFAX + competent trustworthy mechanic = making good decision! Remember that carfax may not say everything about the car, but the mechanic can tell you

Its a 2006, he brought it in 2012...... 6-7 years old....isnt 5 years or newer the permisible entry to DR?

Get a mechanic to check every square inch of the car, removing any plastic inside the hood and check for welding. This sounds like a perfect vehicle to get salvaged in Miami and ship over and restore here. Happens on a daily basis.

Of no consequence......... just that older than 5yr cars shouldn't be allowed.

If its in....... its in....... no worries.

Actually 1 of the above...

It was a rental in Michigan for it's first 8 months of existence (8k odd miles), then spent 4 yrs 9 months privately owned in North Carolina accumulating 76k odd miles, got sold in Miami shortly after and seems to be here now.

It mentioned 1 "minor accident" ?. Which brings a question, what does minor mean in Carfax terms ?.

Thanks

OK, MI rental sold to a No Carolinian.... not bad.

15,000 miles/yrs ~ w/ them

Minor accident is not a big deal = no frame damage, we assume.

Big problems are flood, totally wrecked, etc... can't see that , Huh?

What was that rollback 75%?... miles accurate?

Just looked for Robert's thread with no luck, can ya help ?

NC damage report: sideswipe collision, left front, left, side, left rear impacts. (sideswipe with front & rear impacts ?)

Actually it was Minnesota not Michigan.

Last sale was Fla. auction listed as a dealer vehicle.

Voila !, any more questions or thoughts ?

OK, left side repair... I wouldn't worry

Cars that sit on dealers' lots too long go to auction.

The RD boys buy at auction

I see no red flags here... you have new front and rear quarter panels

Try my man Victor Hugo in SD... 809-416-7660.. if you want options
I just purchased from him - 2008/9 Suzuki Gran Vitara XL7

SEarch XL7 to see my threead

Mileage is what the carfax/check/whatever says it was in the States.
Even though it comes from the States, check the VIN and doorpost label to ensure it's Japanese built IN Japan for the American market. Some SA/CA knockdown products (even Malaysia) for the Mexician, etc., market come through the States.
Have an independent inspection done by a competent and suspicious mechanic.
If it's a sound car, you've got a diamond of a vehicle.
