Where the hell did group theory go?
Specialized/abstract math that will not be used until graduate school, if at all.

What mark will you stamp on the side of your desk when one of your schemes bankrupts a grandmother?

Yes. I'm serious about that. JP Morgan and Goldman held the financial system together by the skin of its teeth, and at least in Goldman's case, a lot of that was due to the team of 60 people I will be in.

Never have so many owed so much to so few....and not known it.

EDIT: not just the team, but the fact that this team is given so much weight in high-level decisions. This is a function of corp. culture and fundamental caution at the upper echelons of the company.

Yes, 350 is about right.

Many/most of the schools in the top 20 produce 15+

Hopkins is one of the smaller ones at ~12 or so

MIT does ~35 per year all by itself.

http://www.aip.org/statistics/trends...ed/table12.htm

Those are not the 20 best departments, but there is significant overlap.

Holy ****! Given 5 yrs/PhD, Hopkins alone must have 60 PhD students! So how many profs would that be?

There are 32 faculty members. In addition, there are a large number of people at the Space Telescope Science Institute across the street who take on graduate students (these students have an advisor of record in the department itself as an administrative nicety).
