Try this Zkrib. I got as far as the propmt Z: . From there I couldn't get it to accept C:. You have to mount a directory as your C: drive. I set up a directory to store all of my other directories for the drive.

So, I'll have C:\DOSBOX\ and within there, I'll have folder \C\. Within folder \C\, I put the game folders in that. So a game folder (\GAME\) would be at C:\DOSBOX\C\GAME\.

Then in the dosbox.conf file, scroll to the bottom and add this to [autoexec]:

mount C C:\DOSBOX\C\

And if you're using your CD-ROM drive, use the following:

mount D "X:\" -t cdrom

X, of course, being your CD-ROM drive. I use the quotation marks, although I don't know if it's necessary.

Then when you run the program, C:\DOSBOX\C\ will be your C: directory.

If you mount C:\ as the directory of the game then it will be in C:\ as far as dosbox is concerned.

It says "Mount C:\ is mot recommended. Please mount a sub directory next time. Whoha, I typed exactly what you said in the above post.

rmsharpe, so when I install my game I have to load it into C:\DOSBOX\?

Load and run dosbox.
Then, mount C C:\ where C:\ is the drive game is in; better not to put
it in the root of the drive, but something like C:\dosgames.
If CDROM needed, mount D D:\ -t cdrom - usecd0 (if computer has
more than one CDROM and you are using the first one) -ioctl.
You are still at prompt Z: . Type C:
You are now at prompt C: . Type cd directory of the game.
Type executable.
(And always after each line command type push Enter to execute it.).

You can google dosbox to go to the site see the instructions and
FAQ and download the emulator (it's free).

Best regards,

I've never had any problems when mounting the whole C:\ drive to C. Unless your DOSBox crashes frequently or your whole PC jams, I don't see any reason for you to mount any particular directories instead of the whole hard drive.

Note that you can use CTRL+F11 and CTRL+F12 to slow your DOS simulator down to the CPU speed your game requires -- no more frustration of a game which runs too fast.

Yep, that looks right. IIRC, there are ways to increase the size, but I don't recall off the top of my head.

Ah, yes.
http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Dosbox.conf#.5Brender.5D

Open notepad, open the file referred to under CONFIG: up there ("c:\program files\dosbox-0.72\dosbox.conf") and look for the line:
scaler=normal2x (or whatever, this is the default)

You can change normal2x to normal3x, to make it bigger, or use one of the options listed on the page I linked. advmame3x is perhaps a good one (it smooths things out a bit).

edit:
You can also as rmsharpe notes above adjust the resolution, as the above linked page indicates, or even just use fullscreen.

'fullscreen=true' in that file would make it be fullscreen
windowresolution=1024x768 or whatever would make it that size.

My DOS games are home, down in the basement.
So, no.

I won't be able to get to them for awhile anyway. Genghis and Mao both declared war on me. I whipped Genghis until he whimpered for mercy. Now, it's Mao's turn.

D:\ not D:/

Just to clarify

I also think you might be safer using the CDROM options, like fed1943 said earlier:
mount D D:\ -t cdrom - usecd0 -ioctl

This is only valid if your CDROM drive is the first CDROM drive in your system (or the only one) and is D:\ (in windows, the D drive). Replace 'D:\' with the right directory for your CDROM drive, and if it is not the first CDROM drive, you may need usecd1 or usecd2 etc.

Actually that is what the installation instructions say. This is what I get when I try it though. (Installing to the D drive)

I'm confused Snoopy. I did install to the C drive but the game told me it couldn't find the CD ROM.

I'm surprised you don't know basic DOS commands, I thought you would at least have some knowledge in that area?

Good old DOS, really great for running games. Microsoft should add a feature that restarts the computer, loads DirectX only and starts the game upon launching it from within Windows. But i'm not really sure if that's even possible.

That was how I saw the PC when I first used one.
