They should really be ranked on a points system (x points for gold, y for silver, z for bronze) +1... I'd say 3/2/1, or 5/3/1, I suppose. To me, silver is quite a good achievement, as is bronze; so 3/2/1 seems reasonable. Having the 2nd fastest person in the world from your country seems like something you should care about... ![]() Also, we should rank the events. Basketball gets X5 points, for example, as does football, while Mens Indoor Archery With Hats With Pointy Ears should get X0.005 points. Etcetera. |

If you have 6 athletes in the Olympics and 1 wins Bronze, relativity says they did damn well. All the scenarios, all the ways of tracking. Total medals. Color of medal. Medals vs. athletes. If you spent the money to send 250 athletes and you get a Bronze only, that doesn't tie the nation that sent 6 athletes, or it shouldn't.

MGDP= Medal count per GDP
seeing as some of these sports require ample capital contributions in order to become competitive or Au%GDP Gold Medal Count per % of total Medal Count won by the country per GDP sort of normalizing towards how successful you are at converting your investment into successful medals; efficiency or, even better, Au%PERCAPGDP = Au%GDP/population This way you can gauge the potential talent pool of the country in relationship to it's ability to field gold medalist. I find it interesting that Jamaica is not really a contender in rowing or swimming, but is great at running. While Serbia and other countries not noted for great beaches or water do well in these events. ![]() |

Some guy adjusted the medals in Athens 2004 for both population and GDP: http://tianmi.info/blogge/posts/08/0...medaljrakning/ It's in Swedish, but the rankings should be obvious. Most importantly, by this way Georgia is ranked 3rd and Russia is ranked 23rd ![]() |

Im guessing the announcers talking mostly about the americans is what you mean by biased? |
