This makes for an interesting question, would a perfect lie detector be of any use in rape cases?

This is true in most countries. The problem isn't proving sex occurred; it's proven the sex wasn't consensual so when one side says it was and the other doesn't then you have a hard time beating reasonable doubt. Especially if a witness can say the two people were acting amorous just before the supposed rape.

Rape cases are certainly hard to prosecute - with the victim often being a witness for the defense, oddly enough - but 5% is rather low, still... in the US it's about 13%, over double (from this wsj article.
