It was a wildly inappropriate joke, showing the underlying and deep seated vestiges of racism in the United States. The only way to really stop racism is to call out the social permissiveness to such racist statements and thoughts. Make it understood that it is not acceptable (before you start with your bullshit, I'm not saying ban it). Kind of like what homosexuals are doing when they slam people who think it's ok to say "fag".
So, do you think the permissiveness of racist statements is "truely trivial" or "irrelevant"? Now, I won't say if you can't see that you are an idiot, because in your case, I think I already know the answer. |

Cynthia McKinney As I see it, this woman is more a part of the problem than the solution. She's like a female Reverend Jackson squared. But to each his own, I suppose. Fortunately, I only see your opinions as a source of amusement. I do not support McKinney, but given the opportunity to meet someone who may be the Green Party candidate for President in 2008, I'm going to take it. I have serious questions about her politics and I figure she's just the person to answer them. Also, I know some of the leaders of the Florida Green Party, and I thought I'd do them a favor and help with the event. |

Black people have been joking about the underlying connotations of "the White House" in the same manner for decades, if not centuries. I suppose we need to get their social permissiveness to racist statements out in the open too while we're at it. Seriously, what the hell do you know about my country. You aren't just offensive to our minorities, you're offensive to all Americans. You're an arrogant pig who thinks he know more about us than we know about ourselves. How would you feel if we started telling you off about Denmark? Stop talking about my country like you know us. You don't know us. |

Here in Virginia today we clebrated Lee-Jackson Day, in honor of Generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. While Martin Luther King day is a mandatory holiday for Federal and State governments in Virginia, counties have the option of also taking off for Lee-Jackson day. Bedford County, where my children go to school did not take Lee-Jackson day off, but used a snow day anyway. Campbell County, where my clinic is, took Lee-jackson day off as a holiday. What possible good was anything that Jackson or Lee did for the people of Virginia? I would think you'd only honor folks whose actions made a positive difference or at least whose goals would have made a positive difference if realized. Do the counties involved make any effort to justify honoring these two men? |

They never held office. Grant had Honesty, integrity, competence was he an adequate president? No, because he put his cronies into positions of power and they lacked Honesty, integrity, competence. In contrast, while Lee was CoS at the beginning of the war, he filled the positions in the Army of Northern Virginia. It went on to do okay. |

Apparently generals who fill the positions of their armies which go on to do okay can still be lousy statesmen. |
