Who Is Your Favorite Current Actor?

Heath Ledger

wait, is he considered current?

gugqgbyzlp 01-23-2008 08:14 AM

Interesting question. And nice choice with Depp.

My favorite actors tend to not to be movie stars: Chris Cooper, Delroy Lindo, and especially David Straithairn would probably be at the top of the list.

But if we're talking favorite BIG actors, I'd have to say George Clooney and Brad Pitt. Pitt's a genuinely great actor, and Clooney's very, very good at what he does, which is being a modern Cary Grant (Grant wasn't a great actor, either, but I'd sooner watch a Cary Grant movie than just about any other kind).

Don Cheadle.

http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/tongue.gif ACK!

I don't have a favourite but several mentioned named would be on the top list.

Clooney - I agree. Not the best I've seen but very competant.

Cheadle - Very good. I put his acting mate, Philip Seymour Hoffman with him. They seem to go together.

Depp I put with DiCaprrio - Actors I don't particulary like but still respect their work/talent.

I'll add Daniel Day Lewis to the list. Aopparently his new effort (There Will Be Blood) his quite good although PT Anderson makes the chore a little easier. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif

I find most actors passable in movies, I'm not overly picky.

In terms one ones that always stand out to me:
Brian Cox
Jack Nicholson
Peter O'Toole
Meryl Streep

And as discussed above, Philip Seymour Hoffman is great as is Don Cheadle.

How could a "real person" have a name like "Benoît Poelvoorde"? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/confused.gif

Owen is fun. He's becoming a great action star and did a wonderful part in "Children of Men". Hopefully he continues on that path.

Will Ferrell really showed me something in Stranger Than Fiction. The guy can act.

Jack Nicholson has to be one of the most overated actors, because he always plays the same role. Sure, he's enjoyable, but not exactly alot of range there.

I'd go with Depp, Norton and DiCaprio as the best actors, but I always enjoy Clooney and Clive Owen.

Oh right, Djimon Honsou.

CIAFreeAgent 01-23-2008 11:17 PM

Johnny Depp -- compare Capt. Jack Sparrow with Jim Berrie; it's hard to believe it's the same actor.

Denzel Washington -- I watched "Man on Fire" again last weekend. I didn't want to. I had things to do. But Denzel was dazzling, and I couldn't turn the TV off. http://www.discussworldissues.com/im...ons/icon14.gif

Rod Steiger -- Still around the last time I looked. His performances as Napolean in Waterloo and as the red-neck sheriff in The Heat of the Night are some of the best ever. [BTW: The list of his great performances goes on.]
