I see this as a possible win win
The world needs fewer Christian televangelists anyway.

That's actually pretty tame compared with Dan Savage's response to this childishness from the Sudan....

No we don't have to respect their country. This is a non issue even in Sudan, no one REALLY sees this as an insult or a threat on Islam. It was a damn kid naming it after himself, Muhhamed is a VERY popular name.

Really it is a bunch of pissed off Arabs in a third world country taking every opportunity they can get, to express false outrage at the west, while being encouraged by the elites in their society to do so.

If they want to express outrage about a real issue I'll respect their opinion. In the mean time they make their country look like it is filled with toddlers who just soiled themselves.

Forget what they named it.

Unless we wish to fight a latter-day version of the 30-Years War, we need to respect the religions of other nations--even when we don't agree with them. We need to respect the religions of other nations only when they respect other religions and religious freedom. All other cases can only be tolerated.

All religions should be mocked in equal. It's just some should be mocked more equally than others.

Yeah, tasteless because he did it out of jest and to get some publicity. Totally wrong...

On another note, I will be selling dried peices of smoked pork as "Jihad Jerky", coming to a gun store near you.

Now, if he voiced support for Fidel Castro, that would probably would get him killed.

Its not clear that even the kind of fundamentalist Islam that has historically been strong in Sudan, would call for the death penalty for what was almost certainly not intended as mockery.

Unless we wish to fight a latter-day version of the 30-Years War, we need to respect the religions of other nations--even when we don't agree with them.

As long as they leave us alone, and leave their neighbors alone (including neighboring muslim states that are not fundamentalist) I wouldnt suggest invading Sudan or anything. Not worth it. But I dont think that means we need to respect this kind of attitude, and I daresay that by considering in representative of Islam, we are actually be far more disrespectful of Islam.
