Here's the deal:

I have no idea whether Jane is just a flake or is simply stringing you along for some sort of weird girl-type reason.

The secret is it doesn't matter.

You have given Jane every opportunity. You've made your move. If she doesn't respond, it's time to back off. Stop calling her. Don't be rude or anything, but stop chasing her. If she's actually interested she'll start to make moves on you. If she's not, you won't be making a fool of yourself any more than you already have (I'm not being harsh; we all make fools of ourselves for girls at some point).

In other words, take the power back. Let her call you for a change. Let her suggest going out for coffee/dinner/mind-blowing monkey sex.

The middle road here is to, next time she says "oh, you should call me" right after you already did and left a message she ignored, is to suggest she call you. And then do what KH said - back off and see what happens.

I mentioned this to my female best friend (the evil one who's ruining my life) and she said that she does this to guys to but doesn't mean to. They like attention, especially from guys, and there is one sure fire way to get a guy to show you attention.

Have a friend call her up on another phone when she's not awnsering phone calls from you to see if she's screening the calls. If she isn't screening you out then have said friend leave a message that you know she'd call back to see if she is really not checking her messages. Have your friend say he's from publishers clearing house or something.
