This is actually a very common specy of puzzle, you call it 'charade' in French.

Only three of the 15 or so I posted remained unsolved, so it's not like you've got a point here.

Dave doesn't sound right to me, dêve (d, e+^,ve) seems more correct to me, though neither shows up in any online dictionary/thesaurus that I looked in. I'm fairly sure the word exists though, just not sure. Frog = french.
