The fashionable small knit kippahs dont cover it all that well. And Ive steadily gone from one bobby pin will do, to two bobby pins, to "QOTM, do you have one of those big hairclip thingies"

At this stage Im thinking of getting one of those big funky colorful caps that jews from the "East" wear, but QOTM thinks they look too hippyish.

From what I can gather, the peculiar linguistic-religious-political situation in Montreal historically made the Montreal Jewish community more insular and tightknit than most in North America.

And yeah, Koreans do stuff like that, Viet Namese, etc. Sicilians used to. Catholics in general? I doubt it. At least here, where the Catholics are of pretty diverse national origins.

So I think I agrees with both of youse.

Communities build their own, informal social networks. There are many human sentiments of solidarity that arise from proximity... If your neighbor doesn't have anything to eat because he's lost his job, you'll give him something, but still you're probably not UPSing flour and vegetables to people 500km away from your city. The French Canadians in New England were quite well known for this, IIUC.

I could observe that the French Canadians I've met over here seem quite clannish- they all seem to gravitate towards Quebec House sooner or later, and go to showings of French language films, et cetera, et cetera.

Two of the events listed in the Quebec House calendar website are suspiciously French sounding.
