Default I feel violated
I experienced that once - I got my employer to regulate the deducted income tax the month after, so that I didn't have to wait a year or more.

I've heard that there's a computer program that calculates how much you should have taken out of each check so that you don't have to pay any taxes at the end of the year.

padillah, this doesn't fall into normal scale, this is a special case, when your tax information didn't get in time when the salary is paid. So they'll make an automatic tax rape.

Well, the automatic 60% is just to make sure you're not making too much money and taxed too little

Yeah, what Asmodean said. Basically it's my own fault I got molested this hard, I tried to make it in time with a very short notice, but it just didn't make it in time. I'll get that money back, I'll just have to wait.

Still, I feel violated . To see 65% overall tax rape feels weird.

OK, my bad on the Israel thing.

I get the tax thing now. You didn't report on time so they just took "everything" and they'll sort it out later.

We kind of have the same here in the U.S. When you file your taxes there's a possibility you fall under the Automatic Minimum Tax. So many people were coming up with deductions and loopholes that they had to start instituting a minimum tax. It got so that if you were rich enough to afford an accountant to do your books you'd probably not pay much in taxes.

Man, that 65% bites hard.

Pekka,

You didn't answer my question. Can you get this back next paycheck or do you really have to wait for next year? And can you explain more how you guys don't have to file tax returns every year?

To keep on topic, I have allways been taught to use 1/4th of your monthly income, pretax in determining rent.

So it would be close to 45% takehome.... Right, then if you don't make the income qualifications they require a cosigner and you end up paying anyway or you don't live anywhere.

I think the point was that he ste the amount in the card but sent it in late so there is a delay in implementing what he elected. So on his first cheque he got hit with maximum taxes-- he'll get them back later though.

Pekka I'm guiessing that your correct taxes should be in place by next cheque?

No, I think I have to wait for next year.

Kid, how do they know what to tax, that's because payrolls always let the state know what I earned, income tax was already deducted from that, and as far as other capital goes, well, they know that too. You have to file for that stuff, if you, for example go and start owning stuff, stocks etc. Because that will be taxed as well. Everything is filed during the year, mostly it's automatic so you don't have to worry about it too much.

Here you can make it so that you don't get much taken out if you want although you are suppose to make sure that you pay your taxes throughout the year. In our situation however you would be able to get that money back soon.

People have gone to jail thinking taxes were not compulsory.

And I have no idea what kind of corrilary you are trying to draw between tax and rent. That just looses me.

Rent is a legal contract between two private parties. Ther landlord only has the contractual rights and has no power of the state. You are free to rent from whomever you want. Is it necessary for many? sure -- but so is food and clothing. Why does the seller of accomodations draw your ire and not the seller of groceries There's no legal difference between the two. Because of the legal and economic system I am forced to pay rent and I most certainly can not change the rates that I pay for rent, WTF?, even if I go to another landlord I still have to pay about the same. If you disagree with those things all I can say is that you are being intentionally obtuse not me.

Why the hell should I be pissed at having to buy groceries? Everyone has to do that. I should be no more pissed about having to buy groceries as I am about paying taxes.

50% for rent is too much, you just live in too expensive area. If you HAVE to live there, then you just make too little money.

Fix either of those two and problem solved.

I have a friend that used to say "I need a raise, I have too many bills". I never could convince him that his pay didn't depend on his bills, his bills should depend on his pay.

Oh, well.
