Default Chicago's O'Hare Thinks They Saw A UFO
Individuals at O'Hare know they saw a UFO...although the US Government will never admit to it.

Woke up this morning,
Was feeling quite weird,
Had flies in my beard,
My toothpaste was smeared
Over my window, they'd written my name,
Saying, "So long, we'll see you again!"

Must be those strangers
Who come in the night
Those saucer-shaped lights,
Put people up tight
Leave the green footprints
That glow in the night.
I hope they get home all right.

Heeeeeeeeey, Mr. Spaceman,
Won't you please take me along.
I won't do anything wrong.
Heeeeeeeeey, Mr. Spaceman,
Won't you please take me along
For the ride.

Civ references aside there have been some experiments were the speed of light was "cheated" in a way (speeding it up and slowing it down). Maybe in a thousand years we'll figure out how to make such things work for objects larger than a single atom and without destroying said object in the process (currently, the single atom is destroyed and an identical one sharing all properties of the original is created ... not terribly useful right now).

The things you were talking about have absolutely nothing to do with FTL and could never have anything to do with FTL. And quantum teleportation doesn't even allow FTL transmission of information, let alone mass.

so what happens if you hit a small rock at the speed of light?

I'm not expert, but I'd say the ship would be fubar'd.

But how much debris is there in outer space. Voyager is still going strong. Wonder if that thing ever hit anything. It would have been destroyed I would think. As that thing is going like 40,000 miles an hour (possibly faster- I have no idea).

edit: 38400 mph. I knew I was close. I remember reading that somewhere.

"To fly seven million light years to O'Hare and then have to turn around and go home because your gate was occupied is simply unacceptable," he said.

If it was unidentified, how did they know it had travelled 7 million light years?
