Default Ripping and Converting
Ripping from audio CDs? I convert to either FLAC or ogg, depending on what I'm going to use the audio for, never to mp3. For archival, nothing beats FLAC, and for casual listening, ogg outdoes mp3 by a wide margin.

Sorry if I didn't answer the OP's question.

In the interests of honesty and full disclosure, I must admit that I don't know the difference between stereo and joint stereo, but I do know that whatever it is, FLAC is not affected by it, thanks to its losslessness.

I have a question for You. I have original cds, but I copy files from them on my computer, so I don't have to insert a cd each time I want to listen to a song or drag dozens of cds with me everywhere. However, if I change my system, my licence is lost. How can I get rid of this problem? I don't understand. What do you use to rip your CD's?

You probably checked DRM in your WMP, Herreson. Turn it off.

WinAmp has sucked for years. It's slow, bulky, bloated and isn't eye pleasing. I'm with Asher.

I'm a neat freak or I would do VBR. All 192 just looks tidier.

That's why you have to rip your music in a lossless format like FLAC. Once its done, its done. If done right, you'll never have to rerip or retag your music again. After that, you can easily mass convert your songs in a lossy format like MP3, AAC or WMA.

But I've spoke of that before. I have like 1400 CD's in MP3 format already. They sound fine to me. I am not going to reconvert 1400 or more. I could. I'm not though. Yeah, I remember. It was just a word of advice for the kids, before they find themselves in your situation.
