Default FBI disrupts New York City tunnel plot
Sounds more like some stoned guys rambling. The concept of "terrorist chat rooms" is a little mind blowing. Anyway, glad it didn't happen.

I wonder, when do random ramblings from some chatboard cross the line, when they can be considered a plot?

You guys know what, I just came up with the PERFECT plan to defeat the current terrorists...

We should all become super religious and claim THEY are infidels. We must be more hardcore in our practicing. Stoic as hell, man, we must do absolutely nothing but think about God and stuff.

Now, they are the lesser believers and thus they have to kill themselves. And they can only redeem themselves and become a person of God by purifying their sinful souls and ways by killing themselves.

Is this is a terrorist plot or a joke? Is the media jumping on these "terrorist plots" because they think they're real threats or is it just another sensational topic? Flying airplanes into buildings wasn't probably thought as being a "feasible" plan for terrorist acts - until someone really did it.....

Actually, it was, by the Hart Commission, whose findings were ignored. They were tainted as having been appointed by Clinton.

At the end of the day the "anti-terrorist" funding has always been pork or at least the current Congress has treated it as pork. I find it disgusting that they eliminated funding for the two biggest terrorist targets in the US (NYC and DC) solely because those cities were controlled by Democrats and the Republicans didn't want to send money to Democratic districts. What happened to just doing what was best for the country?

The men believed that by bombing the train tunnels, they could unleash a severe flood on lower Manhattan, including Wall Street, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing. The official said investigators believe that an attack on a PATH tunnel, unlike the Holland Tunnel, could have achieved that goal. http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/n...nnelsplot.html

Someone's going to have to explain this to me.

The way I see it:
(1) Tunnel: underwater
(2) Manhattan: above the water.
(3) Generally, water does not flow uphill.
(Ergo) Blowing a hole in the tunnel poses no real threat to Manhattan.

(Ergo) Blowing a hole in the tunnel poses no real threat to Manhattan. Pressure differences and the vinturi effect. I.E. the sudden rush of water into the tunnel, which is under the water, and the pressure of the water above it would have forced water out the opening of the tunnel. After a few minutes the pressures would equalize and return to hydrostatic pressure. The tunnel would be flooded and a fair amount of water would have shot out of the tunnel entrances.

I doubt it would be enough to flood more then the nearby buildings and it wouldn't have been the massive flood the people were hoping for but water would come out of the entrances. The main effect would be the loss of the tunnel and the killing of anyone in it along with the destruction of the trains in the tunnel.
