I was wondering if anybody had any opinions on good specials/podcasts on AFR. I've started listening to Orthodoxy And Heterodoxy. Any other suggestions/comments on other podcasts to listen to, to avoid... My thanks.

In Christ,
A.

Fr Tom Hopko is good, The Names of Jesus are a favourite. I also follow Presv. Dr. Jeanie Constantinou's Search the Scriptures - the early ones, in particular, are very good for getting an orthodox mindset for Bible reading via the Father's teaching. And if you sew, then Kh. Krista West, The Opinionated Tailor, is good fun.

Finally, you should really, really, find time for our own Fr Irenei's special "Eastern Orthodoxy and Mysticism".

Love, Richard.

Thank you, Richard, for the suggestions. And thank you for telling me the name of Fr. Irenei's special.

AFR was one of the main sources for my wife and I before we became catechumens. (Now, of course, we have a church community.) It's a wonderful place for knowledge and entertainment. Dcn. Michael Hatt's "At the Intersection of East and West" is a personal favorite.

As a recovering Calvinist, the "Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy" podcast really cut me to the quick.

+1 on Father Irenei's special. I also recommend Matthew Gallatin's podcast, Pilgrims from Paradise. Other than Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy, I would recommend Father Andrew's other program titled Roads from Emmaus. The old staple Our Life In Christ is always a gem. There are a handful of others my wife and I have archived on our iPod, but I can't recall them at the moment.

I enjoy "The Illumined Heart" and Matthew Namee's "American Orthodox History".

Everything by Father Patrick Henry Reardon. Besides downloading his "All Saints Homilies," I recommend tracking down his lecture (on) "The Love of God and the Passion of Christ." It's one of the "Ancient Faith Presents" podcasts.

In Christ,
Evan

What is the difference between a "special" and a regular podcast on that site?

Specials are "one-offs", sometimes and may be longer while "regular" podcasts are published on a "regular" ongoing basis, usually less than 1 hour each.

I listen to nearly everything on AFR, but I'd really like to second Pilgrims from Paradise and Search the Scriptures, and of course the Coffee Cup Commentaries are excellent Bible study.

I enjoy a lot of the specials, such as the conferences. Also, Fr. Hopko has good topics. The music they play during the day is very good as well.

The Maddex family operate AFR. http://ancientfaith.com/staff

I love the music. I like to listen to the audio from the conferences as well. These are listed in the Specials section.

I also listened to Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy -- I thought it was a great podcast. Fr. Andrew has another one called Roads from Emmaus which is also quite good.

For those that like that podcast (Orthodoxy & Heterodoxy), the subject matter of the podcast will soon be published in book form, written by Fr. Damick and published by Conciliar Press. The book is in the final stages of going to press. Look for it at conciliarpress.com in late Spring.

Definitely Father Andrew Damick's podcasts. I attended many of his Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy presentations. He is a priest who is very serious about the Orthodox faith and ready, willing, and able to defend it. Also, The Arena, a weekly podcast featuring Father Josiah Trenham's homilies.
