Default A wonderful week!
It went so well, and I was so surprised. Our friends arrived on Thursday evening and they left sometime Saturday morning. It's been so long since I'd seen them, and I must've been under a lot of stress when I last saw them, because there were so many things about them that I rediscovered. The best thing I rediscovered was, how much like ourselves they are! =) Right down to the detail of not wearing watches!!

We just went from one event to the next. Ate when we got hungry, talked when we had something to say, and enjoyed silence when we ran out of things to say. Friday afternoon was beautiful - we spent 2 hours warming ourselves in the sunshine, while the kids wallowed in the mud from the rainstorm that we had the previous night and all morning. We talked about important things, every day things, and lots of times, we just got carried away with out own silliness.

It was interesting that I was worried most about food, but like us, they care little for food, and just eat whatever there is to eat. We had spaghetti the first night, with salad and bread. We had enough left overs for lunch the next day. And for dinner the next night, we had something Indian.

I lost internet connection, so I could not make use of all your wonderful recipes, including the ones I'd bookmarked on various sites! But, I was able to connect with my mom, for about a half hour on Wednesday before the phone went completely dead! I asked her how to make dosai. Pancakes made with ground rice. It turned out that my thoughtful cousin had packed all the additional ingredients I needed for the dosai batter and the lentil sauce to go with it! (That was last year!!) It also turned out that my friends didn't mind being experimented on. I was probably more surprised than they were, that it turned out so well. We feasted on lenten food... I hope that's not sinful!

Next day, my MIL called and I was telling her we had four extra people in our house for two days and she couldn't stop laughing. We live in a mobile home. When we moved in two years ago, she was convinced it was too small for us. But we had our first overnight guest a month after we moved in and we've had many of our friends stay with us since then, including Ma. After she stayed with us, she understood - that this house is comfortable and quite big if you want it to be. Eight is the largest it's held. But we still had our entire living room floor free. If we have enough mattresses and blankets, we can comfortably have a dozen people in this house! Ma kept saying: "You're rich! You're rich!" And she is so right.

Things only get better and better when you're orthodox, yes? Last Sunday, the gospel reading was about the 'sheep in other folds...' My absolute favorite from last Lent. I felt like I was one of those sheep in the other fold. And I believe that all our friends and family are still in those other folds and its only a matter of time, before our Lord gathers them all into the One Fold. So, I was thinking about them during Divine Liturgy. At coffee hour one of the ladies came over to introduce to me, the visitor who had sat next to me during the service. I was speechless for all of two whole minutes (it seemed that long to me...) when I was told that she went to the same protestant church that we last attended!

We talked for at least an hour and a half. She's been looking into orthodoxy ever since her visit to Russia some 3 years ago. It was so good talking to her. I did overwhelm her with all the info that I had, but our questions were the same and the angle that I had approached the questions from during my own searching, seemed to help her in some way.

But I've got more questions brewing... I'm sure someone here will have some good answers. Now I have to go through those yummy recipes and copy them down on some good old fashioned paper, just in case I lose internet connection again!

I hope everyone else is also having a blessed Lent!

In Christ,
Mary.

Mary:
I am soo happy your guest's visit went well. God even takes care of the little things, huh?

The only thing to fear is fear itself. God provides.
