Default What was your first time driving like?
Ok, so...I have found out that my first driving lesson is this friday, and, in all honesty, I'm fairly scared in case I have to get behind the wheel. And I'm just wandering what people's first time driving on here was like, or, if you haven't driven yet, when you plan to start?

1st Time
I drove my brother's standard Mini Cooper in the Air Force Stadium parking lot. I stalled twice before calling it quits. I was nervous but not as much as my 2nd experience.

2nd Time
My parents and I were going home from a restaurant and my stepdad pulled down a dead end road and made me drive to the end. And of course, every cross-street I came to had the kind of idiots that stop at the last second at the stop sign. It happened 3 streets in a row and I was flipping out.

3rd Time
1st time driving with a driving instructor. I was nervous because I never drove a truck before plus the weather was bad. It was dark, raining, and winy. He taught me how to do turns in a parking lot and made me head onto the road before I felt even close to comfortable driving around other cars.

It was scary for me up until after I finished the driving course but after that, I was used to my car and I knew how to make smooth turns. I still fear my parking ability so I always pull through parking spots so I don't have to back out

My first time driving I took some time to get used to how the car moved, and after getting the hang of it everything went smoothly. Skills learned in driving games transfer nicely into the real world scenario.

Suggestion: Find a wide open parking lot that nobody is using.

I SLAUGHTERED MILLIONS!

No my first several times driving scared the hell out of me so bad. I kinda just forced myself to get used to it after getting my license. When you need money, and you get a job, you kinda just overlook the fear after a bit I guess.

i was nervous up until i had a huge car accident which totaled 3 cars.
i now drive with no hands. Not because I don't have any but because driving with your knees is pretty fun.
I do want to start driving stick shift though.

My first time behind the wheel my brother decided the best way for me to learn was to parallel park the car in a tight spot. His poor car...lol

Actually he said if I can parallel park correctly then that means I have learned most of the mechanics of driving just with that one lesson. Once the nerves are out of the way, its all about just keeping an eye on ur surroundings.

Being king of a redneck, I'd driven a lot on empty dirt roads before any real driving.

My first time was one friday night when me and my brother were going to orlando for the weekend and I asked him to let me drive. Turning off of our road onto the highway, I nearly turned into the ditch immediately because I had no idea how sensitive the steering would be on a paved road. Then I turned into the other lane trying to correct it. It just kept getting worse from then on...

I made it a whole half mile or so before he told me to stop at the next gas station and let him drive. It was pretty bad. Every time after that alway got a lot better than the previous, though.

Hopefully you'll do better not having you're older brother criticize everything you do because he's your driving teacher. If you've practiced in a parking lot I'm sure you'll do fine.

I had driven cars around for years before I even got my permit since I own an auto shop. So I'd been driving cars around the driveway and testing them down back for a long time.

The day I got my permit, when I left work with my dad he handed me the keys to the truck and said "here you go, drive home". I've always been comfortable behind the wheel, and that first time two years ago honestly feels the same as yesterday when I drove home from work.

In short, my first drive was smooth and uneventful, I guess.

I was uneasy and very slow, drove around in an empty parking lot and hardly used the acceleration.

Now I've hit 120 (Chevy Impala cannot go any faster) in a 65 and generally speed everywhere I drive.
