what you do for a living and other hobbies

just out of curiosity what does everyone here do for a living. im actually a mechanic, i work on Harley's for a living. once i had graduated high school in 2007 i had moved to phoenix, Arizona to go to motorcycle mechanics institute and learned about how to work on old and new Harley Davidson's. i already knew some but once i got to the school i knew nothing compared to what i know now. I had graduated the school in 2009. motorcycles are my life not just a job but a career, my 2 biggest dreams are to start my own motorcycle shop and build and restore Harley's, or go back to the school i attended and teach. Motorcycles and cars are what put me in my current state, on march the 1st i was on my way to work (motorcycle shop) and i was hit by a 95 year old man in a mini van. My right femur was broken, i have a blood clot in my left leg, fractures in my hips, fracture in my left pelvic area (the socket area), partially collapsed lungs and heart problems im only 21 years old and i have all these problems. Ive had my problems in recovery but all i gotta do is push through and i will be back on my new motorcycle. but enough about my issues and problems. like i said what does everyone else do for a living and other hobbies.

Dude that is awsome. im actually a licenced aircraft mechanic. graduated highschool is 2008, graduated trade school in 2009. I would go and get a maintenance job but im back in school to get my maintenance managment degree. If i wasnt working on aircraft motorcycle maintenance would be an awsome trade.

This really doesn't belong in General Discussion. >>;

Moved to Off-Topic.

EDIT: Might as well fill this in, since I have the time.

I'm currently studying an undergraduate double degree in Engineering and Science, majoring in Mechatronic Engineering and Physics respectively. What physics is should be a no-brainer. If you don't know what Mechatronic Engineering is, think of it as Robotics.

I would like to eventually enrol in Biomedical Engineering as a postgraduate and design prosthetic limbs and other artificial replacements for body parts. The one area I don't think I will ever venture into is the design of an artificial brain, essentially AI, because I believe that giving machines the ability to think for itself rather than operate according to commands given to it will eventually cause them to become the dominant, superior race. Of course, given the the current state the human race is in, wiping it out and replacing it with some other race as the dominant race could very easily be a good thing instead of a bad one, but shrug, I guess I'm still selfish enough to want to exist.

Hobby-wise, I've joined my uni's karate club since first year and am currently a third-kyu, which is three belts away from a black belt. I initially joined it because, on the day of my high school graduation, while on the way home, I came fairly close to being mugged. Although I was lucky enough to get away unharmed and without money being stolen, I thought then that it would be a good idea to learn some self-defence, hence karate. I don't really know why I chose karate over other martial arts, such as taekwon and aikido, both of which are provided by my uni, among others. I guess karate was the first thing to spring to my mind when I thought of self-defence. I also volunteered to be the "secondary" treasurer of the club. I tacked the "secondary" in front of it, because I think the official title is under someone else's name and it probably wouldn't be right to claim myself as the treasurer.

I'm also an avid tennis player and swimmer. I formed a fairly close bond with three friends from high school and playing tennis at uni used to be our regular form of going out, socialising and just having fun until the uni replaced the courts with a building for the recyclable energy department. Nowadays, we mostly play mahjong at my place, which is a game I thoroughly enjoy. As for swimming, that's something I do alone during the summer holidays. The karate club stops training over the three-month long break and most people come back really unfit for training, so this is my (Rather futile.) attempt at keeping up, lol.

This entire thing remind me of a future Tezuka from Prince of Tennis. I am jealous. I'll post my hobbies/life later.

Actually, humanity was an area of study back in YR12 English and we watched Blade Runner and read Brave New World, which is where I developed this opinion. It seems that recent films are also starting to recognise the possibility of such an outcome again.

chechokancho 05-07-2011 03:08 AM

Well, right now I'm not doing anything, but I'm going to college to get a degree in atmospheric sciences so I can be a meteorologist (weatherman), but not on TV, I want to work for the NWS.

As for hobbies, I also play Pokemon (Video Games, and a little bit of the TCG), and I play some video games, that's about it...

jhkjurter 05-07-2011 03:13 AM

I did Atmospheric Science this time last year. It's pretty interesting to see lecturers berate the news for trying to predict the weather when there's twenty million variables scientists know affect the weather but don't know in what mathematical relationship. XD
